Delay by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party Election Disputes Tribunal in delivering a ruling on Moroto Municipality election petition has sparked anger among the voters.
The petition was filed by Fred Angella, who is challenging the election of the incumbent MP for Moroto Municipality, Francis Adome as the party flag bearer for the 2026 general elections.
Adome was declared the winner by Moroto district NRM Election Officer Yusuf Lomokol, after polling 2,129 votes representing 57 percent against Angella’s 1,529 votes, which accounted for 41 percent.
Esther Angella Pulukol Lochomin, garnered 49 votes representing one percent while Rose Mary Nate Locuku, managed to poll only 09 votes, which accounted for 0.2 percent.
However, Fred Angella rejected the results and petitioned the party’s Election and Disputes Tribunal to nullify Adome’s victory over the alleged irregularities during the primary elections.
But the tribunal has not yet delivered a judgment on the petition and this has sparked uproar among a section of voters.
The electorates criticize the party’s Election Disputes Tribunal for delaying to declare the winner between the incumbent Adome and Angella.
Joseph Opio Lometo, the South Division speaker, blamed the delayed ruling for low voter turnout in the LCIII chairperson and councilor’s primaries held on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
Charles Robert Onyoin, one of the voters said that those who boycotted the elections claimed that they could not vote when the results were declared against their will.
Efforts to get a comment from the Chairperson NRM Election Disputes Tribunal, John Musiime, were futile by press time as repeated calls by our reporter went unanswered.
However, one of the commissioners who preferred anonymity said the remaining rulings in response to the dissatisfaction stemming from the NRM primaries held on the 17th of this month nationwide will be delivered tomorrow.
So far, the tribunal has issued 180 rulings out of the 381 petitions it received from various candidates.
