As the political atmosphere heats up ahead of the 2026 general polls, Moroto Resident District Commissioner Jane Frances Amongin Okili has thrown her hat into the ring to battle for Kaberamaido District Woman Member of Parliament seat.
In a post shared on her social media handle on Friday, Amongin Okili announced her resignation from the position of RDC, effective June 13, 2025, to focus on her Parliamentary bid.
She expressed gratitude to President Museveni for giving her the opportunity to serve in his regime as the RDC.
Amongin, a longtime member of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, has served in various administrative roles, earning an incredible reputation for her discipline, loyalty, and community service.
If Amongin sails through the forthcoming NRM party primaries, she will face off against, among others, the incumbent Veronica Eragu Bichetero, an Independent who is currently traversing villages to galvanize her ground in a quest to retain the juicy seat.
Amongin’s resignation comes days after President Museveni declined to approve the resignation requests of several RDCs and their deputies who had expressed interest in contesting various elective positions in the 2026 general elections.
According to highly placed sources, a total of 35 RDCs and deputy RDCs had submitted their resignations in recent weeks, seeking clearance to join active politics, but only 12 have been given the green light.
The RDCs whose resignation request haven’t been approved are expected to undergo another run of vetting before a final decision is made.
It’s reported that the President is not willing to allow RDCs to join elective politics on grounds that they play a critical role within government structure, particularly in security coordination and grass root mobilization.
