Kotido technical institute has started handing over startup kits to the 160 youths who completed their skills training under the Youth Skilling Program-YSP.

The 160 youths attended a 3 months apprenticeship training in Piggery, Horticulture, Poultry, Carpentry and Solar repairs & installation funded by the Development Initiative for Northern Uganda-DINU.

Alfred Jasper Okello the Principal Kotido Technical Institute says the institute is to hand over 39 Kits for poultry farming, 33 kits for Piggery, 32 kits for Solar repairs and Installation, 30 kits for carpentry, 17 kits for vegetable farming and 9 kits for tree nursery operations.

He urged the beneficiaries to utilize the acquired skills, tools and kits genuinely to elevate themselves out of poverty.

Omara Patrick who attained the solar installation and repairs skills said the kits came in handy adding that he was fidgeting with acquiring tools to carry out his duties when clients consult him.

Achayo Mary Latuk and Apei Romano members of the institute’s Board of Governors who attended the handover ceremony cautioned the youth against selling off the tools urging them to be ambassadors of technical skills.

The principal revealed that 147 students are currently sitting their UBTEB examinations that commenced on Monday 20th November.

Okello says the exercise is running smoothly with the candidates sitting for Automotive mechanics, Building & construction, Agriculture, Tailoring and Carpentry & Joinery.
