Kotido district in partnership with the municipal authorities have introduced penalties aimed at curbing the rampant practice of open defecation.

In the latest intervention by the authorities, headed by the Kotido municipality health committee, those who will be caught in the act will be fined 20,000 and forced to clean the town

Speaking during the stakeholders meeting held at the Kotido municipality, Calisto Awar, the Municipality principal health inspector says a number of youths will be deployed to nab and fine all persons practicing open defecation, further advising parents to always talk their children out of the practice.

Awar says that they have now requested the joint security forces to deploy officers in the different hotspot areas as one of the strategies set in place to curb the vice.

 Dr Cerino Achar, the Kotido district health officer recently during a three-day health sensitization week expressed the same sentiment, threatening to cause arrest of anyone found practicing open defecation.
