The Kotido district authorities have resolved to intensify an operation aimed at eliminating street children from the streets of Kotido district and rehabilitate them home.
For long, the district has grappled with the plight of street kids crowding the streets of Kotido municipality majorly in central division with some allegedly being lured into criminal activities like smoking marijuana, pick pocketing, house breaking and simple burglary.
Charles Ichogor the Kotido RDC without mentioning when the operations would be carried out says the move was arrived at following a security meeting held on the 10th of February 2025 at Kotido district headquarters and attended by key stakeholders who render child related services.
Ichogor says a resolution was made and a committee headed by the District Internal Security Officer-DISO was formed to carry out an operation to arrest the street children and unite them with their families so that they can be enrolled in schools.
Irar Peter Abrahams the Kotido Municipal Mayor welcomed the move but made an appeal to the RDC for frequent operations, noting that the children often make their ways back to streets once the intensity of the operations calms down.
