Kaabong-Authorities in Kaabong district have now embarked on daily nutrition and health services as a measure to curb the high rate of malnutrition in the district.

Early this year, Kaabong district was classified by USAID integrated community and Agriculture and nutrition activity (ICAAN) as the second worst hit district, after Moroto, with, a global acute malnutrition prevalence of 19.8%

Speaking to our reporter during a phone interview Jino Meri, the district chairperson says there is still persistent hunger and malnutrition affecting both children and elders in the district.

He says as a response, the district is now carrying out integrated nutrition and health services were children are screened and treated at the different health facilities

As per the survey carried out by ICAAN from the month of February to March  this year, all the nine districts of Karamoja have over 5 percent  of children are affected by acute malnutrition. The report further reveals that the worst hit district is Moroto with a GAM prevalence 0f 22%, followed by Kaabong at 19.8% all classified in a critical situation,

Other districts of Amudat, Kotido, Nabilatuk, and Napak districts have been classified in a serious situation with a prevalence of 14.3%, 14.0%, 11.7%, and 13.8% respectively. The remaining three districts of Abim, Karenga and Nakapiripirit have been classified in alert situation respectively with a GAM prevalence of 5.7%, 7.3% and 9.4% respectively.
