The joint security forces comprising UPDF and ASTU have pitched camp in Abim district over the rising insecurity.

This follows the numerous incidences of theft, Arson and killings in the district allegedly perpetuated by cattle rustlers, a situation that has since thrown the communities in Abim into panic.

Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto regional police spokesperson says a team led by the ASTU division operations commander, SP Musa Kayongo and Felix Busizori the UPDF 3rd division second in command arrived in the district on Monday morning and are expected to stay in the district and its borders until the situation improves.

Longole says the team is expected to implement a number of security interventions including setting up a new detach in Gotapwou, feasible deployments and patrols in Kiru and Abim town councils, dominating the black spots of Alerek and Nyakwae, as well as conducting cordon and search operations among others.

He says the ongoing interventions are directed towards leaving no freedom of action for criminal elements, urging the cattle rustlers to denounce criminality.
