The Member of Parliament for Chekwii East County in Nakapiripirit district and Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Peter Lokeris, has demanded a thorough independent audit of the results of the recently-concluded NRM primaries for parliamentary flag bearers, in which he was terribly defeated.
According to the election results declared on July 17, 2025, Stephenson Lokoru Yoyo, a clinical officer and former civil society activist, pulled a stunning victory, putting an end to Lokeri’s 29-year dominance.
Lokoru, garnered 2,930 votes in the hotly contested three horse race while Lokeris who has been in parliament since 1996 and still seeking re-election for the seventh term trailed with 2,360 votes.
Though, North Karamoja Khadi, Sheikh Keli Pedo, recently made a passionate appeal to the aspirants in Karamoja sub-region to accept the outcome of the elections, Lokeris, has vehemently refused to concede defeat, citing irregularities.
The minister accuses the party election officials for allegedly masterminding the election process plagued by irregularities, manipulation and conflict of interest.
In a strongly worded statement, Lokeris claimed that the District party Registrar Augustine Lomilo, who declared the results is a biological brother to Stephenson Lokoru Yoyo, who was declared a winner.
Lokeris insists that he will not accept the declared election results, demanding for an independent audit of the votes.
However, the NRM Registrar for Nakapiripirit District, Augustine Lomilo, refuted the accusations as being baseless.
