Kotido District is currently experiencing a significant turnout as the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) conducts its mass enrollment and renewal of National Identity Cards.

This nationwide campaign being carried out at parish and village level for a period of 6-10 months, aims to update and issue national IDs to millions of Ugandans.

The exercise was officially launched on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the NIRA office in Kotido by the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) Peter Lokwii.

During the exercise, NIRA targets to process over 15.8 million renewals and 17.2 million new registrations, ensuring every Ugandan has access to official identification.

Hassan Bakaywike, the NIRA Registration Officer and IT Personnel for Kotido, told Etoil A Karamoja Radio that the first two days of the exercise have been successful.

The teams prioritized district officials, police officers, prison staff, health workers, and Radio Etoil A Karamoja staff.

Starting Friday, the teams will move into community areas within the municipality, including Besigye Tamarind Tree and Entebbe areas Tamarind Tree, anticipating a strong turnout from local residents.

Godfrey Ongom Lodwee, a resident who renewed his ID, praised the speed and precision of the new system, believing it will significantly aid security personnel and the country in combating forged documents.
