The Government through Ministry of Works and Transport has imposed 15-days suspension on YY Coaches after two deadly crashes, which claimed lives and left others severely injured.
On May 5th, 2025, YY bus Reg. No. UAV701C overturned and caught fire, leaving three people dead and dozens injured, according to police
The bus reportedly overturned after the driver lost control when he tried to dodge hitting a boda-boda rider who was crossing the road.

In another incident, YY bus Reg. No. UAX 852F enroute to Yumbe district overturned at Ayango on Apach- Arua highway on Sunday May 11, 2025.

In a letter dated May 12, 2025, the state Minister for Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, criticized YY Bus Company management for failing to control the conduct of its drivers, which raises managerial concerns.
According to the minister, the owners of these bus companies don’t mind when their drivers cause accidents a reason the government has taken action to prevent such incidents in the future.
The Minister emphasized that the suspension is a measure to ensure road safety and hold bus companies accountable for their actions.
Byamukama also ordered the company management to produce two drivers involved in the two crashes in addition to issuing a statement to the public explaining what happened and the steps taken by the company to prevent similar incidents in the future.
He also revealed that investigations are ongoing to determine whether the bus was carrying prohibited flammable liquids, suspected to be waragi and others.
During the 15-day suspension, YY Coaches is expected to take all their drivers for inspection to ensure they are in sound mental condition.
The company is also tasked to provide appointment letters for their drivers and schedules for accreditation.
This is not the first time government has suspended the operations of, YY Coaches over safety concerns.
In August 2019, the company paused operations after 14 people died in two weeks from road crashes.
By press time, YY Bus Company had not yet issued a statement over the 15 days suspended governemnt has slapped on them.
