Farm Radio International, with funding from the World Food Program-WFP, has donated solar powered digital radio handsets to 54 community listener groups in the nine districts of Karamoja sub region.

The groups are from Kotido, Kaabong, Karenga and Abim districts in North Karamoja.

The others are; Moroto, Napak, Nabilatuk, Nakapiripirit and Amudat districts in South Karamoja.

The radios were distributed under the program “Interactive Radio for Agriculture, Weather and Climate Advisory Services”-(IRAWCAS-UG).

Stephen Ongodia, the project and networking officer, at Farm Radio International, told Etoil A Karamoja, that the handsets provision is meant to allow farmers access and listen to radio programmes in their communities.

The farmers were also trained on how to use the Uliza toll free line which gives them opportunity to share their experiences and perspectives on radio programmes as a feedback mechanism. The Uliza line also helps farmers receive early warning and weather advisories on a weekly basis.

The program which commenced in November 2024, will close in February 2025
