The territorial Police in Amudat district, say they have launched investigations into the tragic death of a casual labourer who was on Monday morning found dead inside a conveyor machine at a gold mining site

Baker Magomu, a 30 year-old casual worker, attached to Evergreen Resource mining company LTD,  based in Amudat, reportedly died while on duty as he was operating a mining machine at around 4am in the morning.

According to preliminary information released by police, the deceased was attending to a conveyor belt that was clearing stones and sand to enable the conveyor’s smooth running, unfortunately the spade he was using accidently got stuck in the machine. It is reported that as he struggled to release it, he was quickly pulled inside the machine which cut him into pieces, killing him instantly.

Micheal Longole, the Mt Moroto regional police spokesperson, says Magomu’s body that was later found stuck inside the machine by his colleagues was later retrieved and transferred to Mbale regional referral hospital for postmortem.

Longole, is now imploring casual labourers who work in such companies to always exercise high levels of caution when operating machines, to avoid any future reoccurrence of such incidents.
