In a shocking turn of events, the Chairperson the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission, Dr. Tanga Odoi, cancelled primary election results in Kapchorwa District and other parts following complaints of gross irregularities and misconduct by party officials.
The pronouncement comes days after the arrest of the Kapchorwa District NRM Registrar, Kamongers Akram, following complaints from multiple candidates, accusing him of overseeing a flawed and corrupt electoral exercise and failure to officially declare results.
On Saturday, the Kapchorwa Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Martin Sakkaja, conveyed a meeting with all the aggrieved candidates in his officer to try to resolve the matter in vein.
The controversial issue was then referred to the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) for a final verdict with threatened to defect to the opposition if the party fails to nullify the results of the recently concluded party primaries.
In a statement issued on Sunday, July 20, 2025, through the party’s Electoral Commission social media platform, Odoi said that the recent NRM primary elections for the Tingey County Member of Parliament and Kapchorwa Woman MP seats were marred by malpractice and outright defiance of the party’s electoral guidelines.
“The Kapchorwa district party officials who were charged with the responsibility ensuring free and fair party election chose to indulge themselves in corruption and failed to follow party guidelines because of their selfish interests”, said Odoi.
He noted that the party would conduct fresh elections for both constituencies, with the dates to be communicated in a due course.
