Arengesiep SS in Nabilatuk district on Monday emerged as champions for this year’s Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association-(USSSA) Karamoja regional with a narrow 1-0 victory over Lotuke Seed SS.
The only goal of the a thrilling finals played at a fully packed Kotido Boma ground and attended by enthusiastic funs including students and town dwellers, was scored by Silver Osikiria in the last minutes of the second half.
This marks the first time they have won the prestigious schools’ title, thanks to Osikiria, a S.2 student.
In the girls final Kangole Girls SS triumphed Kotido SS, the hosts 1-0 in a tightly contested match.
Both the winning teams, Ariengesiep SS and Kangole Girls SS were handed trophies for their outstanding performance while the second and third runners in both the boys’ and Girls’ category were awarded certificates for their achievements.
Stephen Ngaama, the General Secretary Karamoja zone Secondary Schools Sports Association-(USSSA), said that Karamoja zone is given three slots, two for girls and one for boys.
He added that Ariengesiep SS will now lead Karamoja zone’s contingent joined by Kangole Girls Secondary School and Kotido SS girls at nationals.
The nationals for boys’ categories will be hosted at Ngora High School while Bukedea Comprehensive School will host girls’ category.
As per the arrangements the national championship will run from May 4th to 14th.
