Adventist Development Relief Agency, ADRA Kotido Branch has donated an assortment of food and scholastic materials to the street Children in Kotido who were forcefully sent to school by local authorities earlier in the month.

All the children were admitted to Kotido Army Primary School in the boarding section without any scholastic materials or boarding requirements.

Among the items donated to support the children’s learning are100 kg of maize flour, 100kg of beans, 40 litres of cooking oil, 35 dozens of books, school bags and pencils.

The aid, according to Moses Orwao of ADRA is to facilitate the vulnerable children stay in school and study comfortably. The support was delivered to the children in the presence of their headteacher, Simon Tito Elanyu and the RDC and the Principal Municipal Community Development Officer, Lilly Lemukol.

The head teacher lauded the support saying the school has been struggling to provide meals and other necessities to the children.

The 25 vulnerable children were rounded up by security forces on the orders of the RDC Charles Ichogor in an attempt to enforce back to school campaign early in March.

The campaign led by the security team, and the community based services aims at ensuring that all school going age children are sent to school. The operation also aimed at getting rid of children from the streets following complaints by the community against criminal acts of the children living on streets in Kotido.

Eric Longole, a P.6 pupil now at school says this is the best opportunity for him to study because his parents who are living in Kotido town are unable to support their needs.
