The preparations for belated Women’s Day celebrations in Kotido district are in high gear, according to authorities.
International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on the on 8th of March as a focal point in women rights movement but Kotido district deferred the celebrations due to resource constraints.
However, with support from development partners operating across the district, the belated maiden celebrations have been slated for this Saturday.
Adventists Development Relief Agency (ADRA), World Vision, and Strong Minds are among other partners that have joined the district in organising the celebrations.
The celebrations themed “Accelerating Action for Gender Equality”, will be held at the Youth Centre with Kotido District Woman Member of Parliament Margaret Aleper, expected to be the Chief celebrant.
Joseph Orisa, the Acting Senior Assistant Chief Administrative Officer as the chairperson of upcoming function’s organising committee, told Etoil A Karamoja that a number of committees have been constituted to see successful celebrations.
He said a football match between women and men, music dance and drama, and health exhibition on mental health among others will be the activities on the D-day.
Toss Auma, a Senior CDO of Kotido District has appealed to the development partners to support the celebration which aims at accelerating action for women equality.
